Company seeks to increase its investment in products manufactured, processed, distributed, or harvested in Puerto Rico
Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, – With the goal of increasing its annual investment in the purchase of locally manufactured, processed, distributed, or harvested products that can replace imported goods, Walmart Puerto Rico announced a new edition of its Open Call PR program, an initiative designed to support the growth of local businesses and contribute to Puerto Rico’s economic development.
Local entrepreneurs interested in participating can register at walmartpr.com/nosotros/opencall between August 24 and October 2, 2026. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with Walmart buyers during the event, which will take place on October 14 and 15 at the company’s headquarters in Canóvanas.
Coral Cummings, Director of Corporate Affairs at Walmart Puerto Rico, stated, “Open Call is part of our promise to help Puerto Rican families save money and live better. This program not only allows us to bring a wider variety of quality products at low prices to our shelves, but by replacing imported products with locally sourced alternatives, we also help drive job creation and business activity, strengthening the local economy and contributing to a better quality of life in the communities we serve.”
“We encourage entrepreneurs to register for Open Call 2026 and take advantage of the opportunity to join our supplier network. They could even have the chance to export part of their production to Walmart stores in the United States,” Cummings added. “Recognizing the importance of our local agricultural entrepreneurs, who work every day to provide fresh, high-quality products to our stores, we also want to invite them to continue growing alongside us and ensure their products remain available on Walmart shelves throughout Puerto Rico.”
Jennifer Garland, Senior Director of Merchandising at Walmart Puerto Rico, explained, “We recognize that supporting local businesses has a multiplier effect on Puerto Rico’s economic development. In addition to inviting them to become our suppliers, we provide training throughout the process and offer guidance to help them develop compelling proposals that meet our retail requirements and position them for success. Once their products are available in our stores, we promote them through various marketing initiatives, including the ‘Made Here, For You’ seal.”
Through previous editions of the Open Call PR program, Walmart Puerto Rico has welcomed hundreds of local suppliers and has surpassed its goals for increasing annual investments in products sourced from Puerto Rican companies.
