In efforts to keep you informed on the news concerning known as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine and its possible effects on the Island, we share the following updates:
• As of 11:00am, coordinates of the system were 15.8 N and 63.7 W, and heading northwest at 23 mph. The system has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph with higher gusts.
• Tropical storm conditions are expected in Puerto Rico this afternoon through Thursday morning.
• Heavy rainfall over portions of Puerto Rico could produce flash flooding during the next couple of days.
• Swells are expected to increase along the coasts of Puerto Rico and could cause life- threatening surf and rip current conditions.
• All ferries to Vieques and Culebra have been cancelled.
• Stakeholders should continue monitoring the progress of the system throughout the upcoming hours through the National Hurricane Center at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/cyclones/ as tropical storm conditions are expected.
• We advise that travelers contact their airline or travel provider for an update of scheduled flights. Likewise, the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is constantly updating cancellations via their Twitter account (@AeropuertoSJU).
